15.County Line

We spent some time down at the riverwalk and stopped in to see their spot - it was nice, and quaint. Had a great conversation with one of their managers and found there were a LOT of similarities between JQ & CL. But we didn’t eat downtown cause everything is reheated - trucked in from I-10 each day. Thought we’d get better food up north.

I had really fond memories of the 1604 location, and the I-10 spot is really nice… but the food wasn’t what it should have been. We ordered the all you can eat platters and added baby backs. The beef ribs were tough - lots of pull, some were thin, some overcooked. 1st round of Brisket was dry and tacky on the teeth. Sausage was hard/chewy. Baby Backs had a nasty internal taste, kinda like refrigerator taste (but we found out these couldn’t have been from a previous day, so the records showed, but the KM had left by the time we had finished and we couldn’t be 100% sure). Oh, and the whole plate was smothered in sauce.

Order some thin-cut brisket, and more food. More of the same. Brisket was still dry.

3rd order of Brisket and they brought it out with au jus sprinkled on it to moisten it, but it was still the same.

I’m sure we dropped over $60 and left unsatisfied (but full). I don’t think I’ll ever go back. I had always loved the Beef Ribs at The Fireplace Inn in Chicago. 8-10 years ago I found CL and loved those ribs and always said that would be a place I’d travel to if you had a plane and said “Lets go to dinner… anywhere”. But no more. Our Chuck Short Ribs are a ton better in ALL categories, so I can now rest assured that I don’t need to covet Beef Ribs from County Line.
